Hollywood movies have frequently influenced the Indian cinema industry. And, remakes aren’t a new phenomenon; they’ve been around for a long time. Some Bollywood remakes were nice, but some were so pitiful that we hoped we could go back in time and erase the horrible memories.
In the past, Bollywood has made many horrible attempts at adapting Hollywood movies for the Indian audience. Here are the worst Bollywood remakes of Hollywood films that were no less than the torture:
Bollywood’s Bad Remakes of Hollywood Movies
1. Action Replayy (Remake of Back To The Future)
The narrative of Vipul Shah’s film is quite similar to that of Robert Zemeckis’ famous movie. The Hindi adaptation was unable to replicate the original’s comedy or heart. It’s hardly unexpected that the picture was not well received by reviewers or audiences. This is definitely one of the worst Bollywood remakes of Hollywood films that left audience tortured. Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Neha Dhupia acted in the Hindi movie. The film also starred Om Puri, Kirron Kher, and Rajpal Yadav.

2. Ek Ajnabee (Remake of Man on Fire)
The film was a direct extract from the Hollywood movie ‘Man on Fire’. Amitabh Bachchan played the sleek Denzel Washington. Despite the fact that the majority of the audience was uninformed of the original version, the picture tanked at the box office. The film also starred Arjun Rampal and Perizaad Zorabian in addition to Amitabh Bachchan. This was Amitabh Bachchan’s final release of 2005, after a string of five consecutive successful films. This was the only average-grossing film.

3. God Tussi Great Ho (Remake of Bruce Almighty)
The film was a straight remake of ‘Bruce Almighty,’ starring Jim Carrey. Despite having an A-list cast that featured Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, ‘God Tussi Great Ho,’ was a disappointment. The picture did not connect with the public, and critics thought the narrative was excessively contrived. This demonstrates that a film’s success is not only dependent on its actors. Priyanka Chopra and Sohail Khan also appeared in the flick. The movie, however, did poorly at the box office.

4. Dil Bole Hadippa (Remake of She’s The Man)
Despite the fact that the film was officially an adaptation of a Shakespearean play, there are striking parallels between the two movies. Both characters dress as men in order to participate in a sport. Despite Rani Mukerji’s passionate performance, the film was not well received by reviewers or audiences. Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukerji played crucial parts in the narrative of a young lady who pretends to be a guy in order to join an all-male cricket team. Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Rakhi Sawant, and Sherlyn Chopra all appear in supporting roles.

5. Bichhoo (Remake of Leon The Professional)
This film is an adaptation of the 1994 cult favourite. When it was released, the film turned into a disaster at the box-office. The performances of Deol and Rani Mukerji were harshly lambasted by reviewers. According to reports, it is impossible to take the film seriously because it made people giggle in critical situations. This is not what a thriller should do. ‘Leon: The Professional’ stars Jean Reno as the title character, a mob hitman, and Gary Oldman as corrupt and insane DEA agent Norman Stansfield.

6. Game (Remake of And Then There Were None)
This 2011 film is based on Agatha Christie’s mystery novel of the same name, which inspired the original adaptation. More individuals are becoming aware of the original material, which adds to the strain. It’s hardly surprising that ‘Game’ fared poorly given the conditions. There is no suspense, and even the most casual watcher can see the turns coming a mile away. Abhinay Deo directed the Hindi action thriller, which was produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Among those who appear in it are Abhishek Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Sarah-Jane Dias, Shahana Goswami, Boman Irani, Gauahar Khan, and Jimmy Shergill.
7. Players (Remake of The Italian Job)
The film was an actual remake of ‘The Italian Job,’ and there was a lot of buzz about the Hindi remake before it came out. Unfortunately, the picture fared poorly, particularly at the box office. This was ascribed to the film’s sluggish pace and its inability to match the thrill of the original. Vinod Khanna, Bobby Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sonam Kapoor, Sikandar Kher, and Omi Vaidya star in the principal roles, with Aftab Shivdasani appearing in a cameo.
8. Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love (Remake of Love Actually)
Another film with an all-star ensemble and some major names that fail to create an impression. The film’s great tunes are its sole saving grace. Otherwise, the remake suffers from incoherence and never allows us to identify with any of the characters. The excessive length did not aid its cause and produced ennui in the spectator. ‘Love Actually,’ on the other hand, was a great movie.
9. Fool N Final (Remake of Snatch)
This picture simply couldn’t compete with the wild excitement of the original Hollywood feature. Despite having some strong comedic actors, the director and writer apparently did not make the crowd laugh too much. When viewing ‘Snatch,’ the spectator got a sense of levity. The major actors in the remake were Sunny Deol, Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia, Sameera Reddy, and Vivek Oberoi.
10. Tees Maar Khan (Remake of After The Fox)
Vittorio De Sica, the great Italian director, directed the original film. The apparent ‘humour’ in the 2010 Bollywood remake was widely criticized. The script was judged to be lacking in several sections, and the audience hardly laughed at any point. Even a performer with exceptional comic timing, such as Akshay Kumar, was unable to redeem the picture.
11. We Are Family (Remake of Stepmom)
We Are Family, directed by Siddarth Malhotra and starring Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kajol in main roles is the official Bollywood version of Julia Roberts’ 1998 film Stepmom. The plot centres around Maya and Shreya, who have very different perspectives on motherhood. While the picture was well received by reviewers, it was completely replicated in its remake, reeking of the directors’ creative sloth.
12. Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (Remake of My Best Friend’s Wedding)
Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai is a romantic comedy film inspired by the 1997 American rom-com My Best Friend’s Wedding, starring Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, and Rupert Everett. While the Indian filmmakers were successful in keeping the narrative intact, they went beyond melodrama, which is characteristic of the Hindi film genre. The film’s over-the-top drama made it a degraded version of the American rom-com.
13. Dostana (Remake of I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry)
Dostana, Karan Johar’s 2008 film, is claimed to be inspired by I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, a 2007 comedy about two unmarried straight men who pose as a gay couple in order to collect domestic partner benefits. While the video intended to shed awareness on LGBTQ concerns, it also reinforced numerous prejudices about them.
14. Chor Machaye Shor (Remake of Blue Streak)
This cringe-worthy 1997 film was one of the Worst Bollywood remakes of the Hollywood film ‘Blu Streak’ If you’re wondering what might be worse than bad acting and direction, consider Bobby Deol’s dancing.
15. Milenge Milenge (Remake of Serendipity)
Milenge Milenge was a replica of Serendipity, and the characters were similar to those in other Bollywood love comedies. The characters had high aspirations, made poor life decisions, and had low self-esteem. And it’s uncommon to see a romance film that speaks to the current zeitgeist without glorifying violence or dishonesty. The Hollywood film Serendipity, if not the finest romantic film, surely makes it appear to be a fairytale and beautiful romance. The Bollywood remake film, on the other hand, was still another cliché.
Dear Bollywood, please stop giving us horrible remakes. Show some originality and stop torturing us with your endless remakes.
